Medium dark garnet, but saturated with glass coating color. The nose is pretty strong, showing mostly leather, crushed berries, and alcohol (though not necessarily in that order!). The entry is light, and on the palate the wine hits high, stays there, and so seems thin. The fruit profile is tart, slightly underripe raspberry, with some pretty powdery tannins thrown in to, uh, give it grip. It’s pretty tight, racy, and drying, or what we might call “Classical rustic”. This may open with some air time, so I’ll pop the cork back in and check it out tomorrow. I’ve not had casavecchia grapes before, so I’m not sure of the potential or proclivities. Interesting, though.
